The vendor batteries
Most departments buy their written test rather than build it, which is good news: the vendor publishes what is in it.
- NPOST
- Reading comprehension, arithmetic, grammar, and incident-report writing. The report section is the one candidates practice least and the one a reviewing sergeant would recognize immediately.
- PELLETB
- Two and a half hours of reading, writing and reasoning, reported as a T-score rather than a percentage — so “I got 80% on the practice test” does not translate. Our readiness estimate reports in the shape the test does.
- CJBAT · NCJOSI
- Cognitive and behavioral batteries used across a number of agencies, each built to its own published outline.
- Frontline National
- A video-based situational-judgment test: you watch a scene play out and choose. Which is a genuinely different task from reading a scenario, and it is practiced as one.
